October means...

POMEGRANATES!!!!! YAY! :) Last year Allen and I both tried our first ever pomegranates and we LOVED them! October is the first month of them being in season, and last year Hy-Vee was selling them for $1 a piece. I hope it's the same this year. One pomegranate yields ALOT of delicious fruit. Last year we just ate them raw, but this year I'm planning on cooking with them. Pomegranates are not only yummy, but REALLY REALLY good for you. They are in the "super fruit" category for their nutritional richness.

Some interesting pomegranate facts here: http://www.xomba.com/fun_facts_about_pomegranates

Hope every one is having a good week!

Catching up

Sorry we haven't posted in awhile. Just to let you know this is Allen making the post this time around. I don't post much because Amber loves to do it and tells it all anyway. Saturday we had some friends over (and Josh). We had a blast. We played guitar hero, poker, and apples to apples. Amber and Amy split the pot in poker because they had about the same amount of chips and the already long game would have took forever. I'm not sure but I think Amber has some pics. I'm sure she will post them asap.

Sunday we went over to the in-laws. We had BBQ beef sandwiches and Amber made her parmesan green bean casserole. Everything was awesome! Its always a treat to go over there. Its very relaxing.

Well I'm about one week away from my interveiw with General Mills. I'm both excited and nervous. This job would mean so much to our little family and would allow us to have a bigger one in the future. I hope everything goes well.

Some bad news today, I started my cluster headache cycle with searing pain at 4:00 am. If anyone wants to know what cluster headaches are Wikipedia has done a good job discribing them. The link is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cluster_headache . I get what is known as episodic cluster headaches and it has been over a year since I got one. I had been noticing some signs that it was going to hit soon ie. popping and ringing of my right ear and some pressure that felt almost like a shadow. I think everything was just in order last night that made the "door open" : amount of sunlight changing rapidly, lots of stress (about jobs), hadn't had a cycle an awhile, food from super didn't settle (both of us had that issue), allergies at the max, and I got really hot last night with the comforter on. I am very thankful that I have went over a year without having one but this is some really bad timing for sure. I'm tough though and will make it through it.

Hope everything is going good with everyone. Love you all!

Allergies are the worst...

WHY IS THIS YEAR SO BAD FOR THE ALLERGIES? MY FACE HURTS!

So, Allen ROCKS at mini-golf and Beatles Rock Band really rocks, and I was trying to think of something else catchy to put in this sentence that also includes the word "rocks", but I've run out of ideas.

Tomorrow is Friday, which is wonderful. I can't wait for it to be over. It's also pay day Friday, which makes it even better.

Nothing else to report. Oh wait, one thing, I talked to a customer on the phone today who told me that I should stop drinking milk, to help with my allergies, and that I should call her doctor in Chicago...hmmm....

Hope everyone has had a great Thursday!

As promised...

Allen's boss gave him a three day weekend , so I took PTO today to have the full three days off in a row with him. (When Allen gets his new job our weekends may not happen as often and we probably won't get to see eachother nearly as much as we do now...so we took the extra three day weekend glady!) We went to Sturgeon on Friday night. Penny didn't puke this time, thank goodness! (Last time we went to Sturgeon she had eaten something from our bedroom that made her puke all over me and our car.) Saturday was a wonderful lazy day of sleeping in and spending time with the Cooley's. We played our new guitar hero with Matt and Nicole and we got to meet Mooney , their adorable 8 week old miniature schnauzer! She was sooooo darn cute I just wanted to hold her and squeeze her all day! But she wasn't about to have too much of that. She was typical puppy! Wanted to play with everyone! (We remember when Penny used to want to play with everyone...now she's a little shy...we're working on it...) Mooney and Penny got a long really well, and Allen's parents' dog Rose, who is a much bigger yellow lab didn't mind the smaller dogs at all. Penny suprised us a little bit because typically Penny LOVES to play rambunctiously with other dogs, but it was as if Penny instantly knew that Mooney was a puppy, instead of a play mate. Penny really acted like a big sis or something, she played a little bit with her, but gently. When Mooney gets a little older though, then I think Penny will play with her. Especially since Mooney is going to get quite a bit bigger in a short amount of time.

We had grilled chicken for dinner on Saturday which was DELICIOUS, as always.

Sunday we went to church with Allen's dad. Their church is very beautiful and the preacher had a great message. I'm glad we got to go!

We decided to come home Sunday night and spend the day today together, just Allen, Penny , and me. It was a good day. We REALLY must have all needed to sleep in because we slept in later today, all three of us, than we have in a long time. We had BLT's for lunch because Allen has been craving them, and he finally got me to sit through the movie Ben-Hur. All three hours and 40 minutes of it! I do have to say, it was an amazing movie. Now I can say I've seen it, and Allen can stop begging me to watch it with him lol! Seriously , though, he was right, a GREAT movie; just make sure you have plenty of time to watch it.

It was the season premier of our favorite TV show, HEROES, tonight. Looks like it's gonna be another great season! YAY! :)

And tonight I made Winter Squash Chowder. IT WAS AMAZING! :) Definatey worth all the time it took to get the squash peeled and chopped. (Allen helped me because he didn't want my inner Kensai to come out and chop a finger off...) The recipe is one I found on www.foodnetwork.com . The recipe is a keeper for sure! I think I will make it some night for my mom because I know she would love it. Recipe here:

Another blog to come...

So, it's really late, I'm not blogging about this weekend yet, but I do have some good news to share with everyone. When we got home tonight, in our mailbox Allen had received a letter from General Mills. He passed the second round of testing and has an interview scheduled for October 7th ! YAY! :) Well, I will be blogging again tomorrow with some pics of Matt and Nicole's ADORABLE mini-schnauzer. Until then, check out this video of kids with the Marshmallow waiting test. SO CUTE! They even say that a child's ability to resist the marshmallow was directly related to their later success in other things as they got older.

Hmmmm...

Hmmmm...is the title of this blog because I couldn't think of anything better.

Last night Caleb and Josh came over for dinner. We played a little bit of Guitar Hero, ate dinner, and headed to the tennis courts. It was Caleb's first time playing. He got upset because he wasn't instantly Andre Agassi. We had to keep telling him that he will get better with practice. We took Penny with us again, and she again LOVED it. We tried to catch some good video of her running with the balls, but my batteries were low on the camera, so no luck. We'll try harder next time. IT'S SOOOO CUTE! We had a really great time hanging out with Josh and Caleb. As long as Caleb promises to get his homework done, maybe Mom will let him come over again with Josh on a school night. Tomorrow night we leave for Sturgeon. YAY! :) Matt and Nicole, I hope you're ready for some serious Guitar Hero songs and we can't wait to meet your puppy!

Grandma and Popop, be careful on your way to Columbia and on your way to Iowa. Tell everyone hi!

Everyone else reading this, hope you have great weekends too! :)

We love you all!

Tuesday Night-Friend Night YAY!

It was an impromptu mini game night tonight, which was awesome! Our friends Jessica and Alex and our new friend Becky (the one who never wants her picture taken, lol), came over this evening to play Apples 2 Apples, and we played a little bit of guitar hero. It was a really nice break from the weekly hum-drums: get up-go to work-eat dinner-shower-go to bed, wash, rinse, and repeat. Penny's boyfriend, Butch didn't get to come over. :( maybe next time! Apples 2 Apples is such a great game, such a simple idea, maybe that's why it is such a hit. It's funny because you never know what you're gonna hear. For example: "Comfortable : Berlin 1945", or "Fake: The Mississippi River" , just to name a few.

Manic Monday

Today was a pretty hectic day at work. Can you believe it's already the middle of September!!!! Unbelievable. My mom asked me this weekend what type of candy I want to make with her for Christmas. I'm taking requests... Hope everyone has a great week! Allen managed to get this weekend off without even asking for it off. Once he gets this job at General Mills there probably won't be very many weekends off because of overtime, so even though we just went to Sturgeon, we are going to make it down again this weekend! We want to get to see everyone there as much as possible. Plus we can't wait to see Matt and Nicole's new puppy. It's a miniature schnauzer and she looks CUTE! :)

Something Delicious for Saturday Night

So, last night was "date night" at home. We spent a little extra on the ingredients for dinner last night and it was still cheaper than if we had decided to go out. I made balsamic glazed chicken with portobella mushrooms, served over cracked black pepper linguine, with herb-sauteed summer squash and zucchini. For desert we had butternut squash with struesel. The only part of the meal that was a disappointment to me was the squash. It tasted VERY similar to the sweet potatoes we eat at Thanksgiving and wasn't very "dessert like." I have to admit it was probably better for us than some of the other desserts I had been looking at. The chicken and pasta was amazing. We had so much leftover that we ate it for lunch again today, and I would almost say it tastes better today, something to do with flavors having more time to settle.

Recipes here: (and the pictures above are real pics of what the food looked like cooked!)
We spent all night watching Heroes on netflix. We finished watching season 3 and now we can't wait until Sept 21 for the 2 hour season premier of season 4. We're officially completely addicted.

This evening as soon as Allen gets off work we are going to my Mom and Dad's for dinner. I'm baking chocolate wave zucchini bread right now to take over there. I hope there are still some grape tomatoes left in the garden.

Too late to post!

**SIGH!** The weekends are just not long enough, and tonight we had a Hero's marathon...and now it's bed time. I will have to post tomorrow. Sorry guys!

Yes, it's been six days! YIKES!

I truly didn't realize it's been six whole days since we blogged! Sorry to all of you faithful blog checkers out there. You know we love you lots, so I'm gonna show some love with an extra long post. In the words of my fellow blogger ( and super great friend) Jessica, an EPIC POST! :)
Well lets see, first things first, I am so glad tomorrow is already Thursday! Gotta love those three day weekends! Makes for a four day work week. YAY! What a wonderful weekend it was. We left on Friday night after I got off work. Of course we had to leave late because it seems like every single time we go to Sturgeon I end up having to work the late shift so I don't get off until 6p.m. Oh well, we made it safely. Since we got that wheel bearing fixed on my car it was a much quieter and less scary ride. It was SOOOO great to get to see the family. We didn't get the chance to visit with any friends this weekend, but maybe next time. It was great because Matt and Nicole were there and Dustin and Jessica. We had a really great time playing video games and poker. It was a long night of poker Saturday night. Aacooley came out on top, though! Allen won the first game, and I won the second game, after a long head to head battle with Dustin. It was a good game, but I finally wore him down!

On Sunday I shot Allen's Glock for the first time. I definately don't have any aim, I will have to work on that.

Matt and Nicole brought their Wii over. They just bought Mario Kart so Allen, Phil, Matt, and Nicole played some hard core Kart on Sunday. I think they might have played for 6 hours in a row! LOL! It was nice for Allen to get to play the game with them. He doesn't get too much gamer time in with me...:( unfortunately, I'm pretty much video game handicapped, except for Guitar Hero, which might I add, Guitar Hero 5 is out and we bought it at Target this weekend. It was a REALLY great deal because we are getting two games for the price of one. We're getting Guitar Hero Van Halen for free, just have to wait to get it in the mail. So far we really like it. There are a lot better songs on GH5, more variety. The whole first half of the songs (there are 85) have been pretty easy, but Allen is in the living room playing now and he just failed like 5 times on a song. I can hear him cussing...lol! Can't wait to get to play with everyone! Now that we have this one, as soon as we get out Van Halen I think we really are going to throw a Guitar Hero party. I know I've been talking about it for a while. (Ummm..about two years now...) but this time I'm serious. I know someone else who needs to have a themed game night...Jessica, I hope there is some Beatles Rock Band in our near future! Speaking of themed game night...I would like to know how many people would be up for a Trivial Pursuit night. If you're up for it or have friends that would be up for it, post a comment the Chat Roll.

On Monday, Allen took me into Columbia for some shopping. I had a $10 off coupon for a $25 purchase at Fashion Bug that expires at the end of this month, and since we don't have any Fashions Bugs around here anymore, it made sense to take advantage of being so close to one. I couldn't find any shirts that I was dying to have. (I'm not sure what's up with these stupid shirts that make even skinny girls look pregnant...) So, instead I got a GREAT deal on bras. They were buy 2 get one free, plus I used my $10 off coupon. I made out like a bra bandit! WOOT! We ate lunch at a place niether one of us had ever been- Macaroni Grill. It was DELICIOUS. I didn't know it was only a pasta house, and a pretty expensive one at that, but it was soooo good. WE LOVED IT! It had a great dining atmosphere, would be a place to get dressed up and have a romantic date night at some time. Our server was EXCELLENT too. We went to the mall, but didn't really have any luck finding anything there. Our next stop was Pet Co. We bought Penny a new ball. She's been playing with an old tennis ball, but she's been also eating the felt off of it, so we bought a ball made out of rope. She really likes her rope bone. She immediately took to the rope ball too. Must be something about the texture. Oh, and I forgot to mention, on Sunday Phil smoked some beef spare ribs and some babyback ribs on the grill. As always they were delicious.

Tuesday it was back to work. It sucked for both of us. I had a hard time because over the weekend we had a system update that changed the way we take our phonecalls and record our notes. So everything was new, AND we had twice our normal Tuesday call volume because of the holiday. In fact so far all week the phones have been hectic, seems like I can't get anything done that I need to because the phones are so busy. Allen said work has been crazy for him also.

We were going to take a community education class all day on Saturday from 9-4 at John Wood Community College for first time home buyers, but the class was cancelled due to lack of intrest. :( We were looking forward to it too...hopefully Allen will get the job at General Mills and we will be able to start the process of becoming home owners. We sure would like to get in on the whole $8,000 tax credit before the end of the year. (We even kind of have our eye on a house sitting on 12.5 acres outside Palmyra, between Palmyra and Philadelphia, but still in the Palmyra school district) But if it's not meant to be for this year, it's not meant to be.

Hard to believe it is already September. We will blink and it will be 2010 already!

Well, hope everyone had a wonderful Labor Day weekend and that the work week hasn't been too rough on anyone so far.

Oh, and there are new pics uploaded to Photobucket Summer 2009 from this weekend. Click on the picture in the sidebar to check em out! And if anyone is wonder what the pictures of everyone standing around and looking up are, we were watching a garden spider wrap up a cricket and move it around on her web. Yeah....we're nerds...

Fuji Steakhouse

So tonight Mom and Dad took us all out to eat at the new Japanese steakhouse in town. SIMPLY AMAZING! It was really neat. The atmosphere of the place was very classy. Everyone working there seemed to be enjoying their job. My jaw dropped to floor when I opened the menu, which I might add was a very fancy menu with cloth covering. The prices were outrageous. It didn't matter what we decided on, it was going to be expensive. One thing to keep in mind when paying for the food if you ever decide to go, you're not just paying for the food, you're definately paying for entertainment, the same as you would if you paid to go to the movies, only MUCH more delicious than some nasty old popcorn. Our chef was hilarious! Very talented, and I will never ever forget seeing my dad hit in the face with fried egg! Yup...he got a piece of flying egg right to his glasses, if only I would have had my camera poised for that! I ended up with egg on my shirt, so did Caleb and Mom, Allen and Josh caught their pieces. The food was DELICIOUS and there was so much of it, I was completely stuffed by the end. It's a neat experience. I would love to go again, but at those prices I doubt we probably will...we might go one more time to try their sushi. If you have a little bit extra cash and by a little I mean alot, and are looking for a fun date night, Fuji Steakhouse is definately a great place to go.
We are leaving tomorrow for our three day weekend, headed to Sturgeon. We can't wait to get to see everyone again.

Hope everyone else has a great weekend too! We'll tell you all about ours when we get back.

Only 2 more days....

UGH! Can we make it? LONGEST WEEK EVER!
Ooooo and tomorrow night we have reservations with Mom, Dad, Caleb, and Josh to eat out at the new Japanese steakhouse! YAY!
